Sophia Thomas is doing her best to live up to her name, which means wisdom.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Brooklyn and then Iowa, she has come to realize she will always be a city girl at heart. Most of her adult years were spent in Chicago and then Manhattan before she moved across the country to Los Angeles, where she now lives and works.

She came up through musical theatre: a B.F.A. from Roosevelt University in Chicago, the second national tour of Mamma Mia!, the Goodman Theatre, Chicago’s Theatre at the Center, and Off-Broadway singing in Witness Uganda. That training shows up everywhere else she works now: in the timing of a comedy scene, the stillness of a drama, and the dozens of characters she voices for animation and English dubbing.

On camera she played Sam’s mom opposite her real-life son, Caedmon, in Summertime, the Carlos López Estrada feature that premiered at Sundance 2020. Television audiences have seen her in Lifetime’s Sinister Minister, BET Her’s It’s a Date, Investigation Discovery’s True Nightmares, and as the series regular Susan across three seasons of the comedy Just Jackie. In the booth she is Jasmine on Caillou, I.R.I.S. in the NAACP Image Award–nominated short Our Heroes Rock: Bridges, part of the all-star cast of Atlantis Rocks, and the English voice of characters in Netflix’s Élite, Fugue State and Rich in Love 2. She recorded with the loop group on The Simpsons in 2025.

She has worn many hats (and fabulous wigs) over the years, prefers simplicity, and will always want music and dance to be a part of her life in some shape or form. She loves to travel to warm places, eat good food (preferably spicy), interact with cultures of all ages, and especially enjoys mentoring and helping other artists reach their full potential.
